First Aid: Limb Severed / Loss (not salvageable)

Symptoms

Severe blood loss, detached / near detached limb, broken bone.

First Aid

Clean wound thoroughly then use the least aggressive method that stems the blood flow: A:Direct pressure with clean cloth / gauze and bandage. B:Apply pressure above wound. C: Clamp large veins / artery and get to vet quickly. D:Tourniquets - Wrap (twice) a 1 inch wide strip of cloth approximatley 1 inch above the wound. Tie ends of cloth to stick (or similar). Twist stick like a tap (faucet) , untill bleeding stops. (AVOID EXCESSIVE PRESSURE). Hold stick in place with additional cloth, shoe lace or some othe suitable tie.

Notes

If limb is salveagable, loosen tourniquet for 60 - 120 seconds every 15 minutes to maximise chance of limb viability.
