Dog Licence

In the past there was a Dog License that was insufficient to achieve any community benefits. There is now a plan to introduce a new Dog Licence though there seems some confusion ovrt its costs. NASDU recently clarified the position by sending the following note to its members:

"Some of you have contacted us regarding the introduction of a dog licence at £600 per year for which Iwe can confirm the following: -

The RSPCA recently reported on the possible introduction of a dog licence which it says would improve health and welfare of dogs, reduce strays and tackle irresponsible breeding.

The RSPCA also conservatively estimated that if costs £650 per year to keep a dog (for food, vet costs, equipment) and I believe this is where the confusion has arisen regarding the licence fee which is proposed at £20.00 per year.

The introduction of a licence fee is not only supported by the RSPCA but also the Police and local authorities."

Hope this helps
